Tuesday, September 6: Scripture – Psalm 51:3-5
3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against you, you alone, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are justified in your sentence and blameless when you pass judgment.
5 Indeed, I was born guilty, a sinner when my mother conceived me.
Prayer Focus: It is hard to look at a sweet and innocent baby and say “you were born guilty, a sinner from conception.” And yet that is the claim of scripture and our theological tradition. We are born into the condition of Sin with a capital “S.” From this universal condition we commit the wide variety of sins with a small “s.” As the psalmist declares, both our Sin and our sins are against our loving creator. It does no good to pretend we are not sinners. We are. Do not be afraid to pray today for mercy. Pray that you might be washed and cleansed by the God of steadfast love.
