11 She made this vow: “O Lord of hosts, if only you will look on the misery of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant but will give to your servant a male child, then I will set him before you as a Nazirite until the day of his death. He shall drink neither wine nor intoxicants, and no razor shall touch his head.”
Prayer Focus: Hannah’s distress is so deep that she bargains with God. I rarely suggest making a quid pro quo kind of arrangement with God – i.e., if God does this for me then I’ll do something for God. But that is Hannah’s bargain. If God eases her pain with a male child, she will dedicate the child to the Lord as a Nazirite. God desires to give you good things whether you make a bargain for them or not. Ask God for what you most desire and pray for an open heart to receive the gift God will provide.
