Tuesday, November 16: Scripture – John 18:29-32

29 So Pilate went out to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?” 30 They answered, “If this man were not a criminal, we would not have handed him over to you.” 31 Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and judge him according to your law.” The Jews replied, “We are not permitted to put anyone to death.” 32 (This was to fulfill what Jesus had said when he indicated the kind of death he was to die.)

Prayer Focus: Pilate comes to the leaders of the Jerusalem temple and asks what charges they are bringing against Jesus. Pilate does not understand why they are bothering him with what appears to be an internal Jewish matter. However, the leaders indicate that his crimes are so severe that they deserve death and they are unable to impose that punishment. Do you ever try to rope someone else into doing the hard things you don’t want to do yourself? Do you ever try to pass the buck so that someone else bears the burden? Pray that you might take responsibility for the decisions you need to make today. Do not push them off on someone else.
