Tuesday, March 8: Scripture – 1 John 2:3-6
3 Now by this we may be sure that we know him, if we obey his commandments.
4 Whoever says, “I have come to know him,” but does not obey his commandments, is a liar, and in such a person the truth does not exist;
5 but whoever obeys his word, truly in this person the love of God has reached perfection. By this we may be sure that we are in him:
6 whoever says, “I abide in him,” ought to walk just as he walked.
Prayer Focus: It has become almost a cliché today to hear, “He can talk the talk, but can he walk the walk?” However, it appears that this saying has biblical roots here in 1 John. If we know Jesus we will obey his commandments. If we “talk the talk” of faith, we have to “walk the walk” of faith. Doing so will indicate that “in this person the love of God has reached perfection.” That may overstate it just a bit, but it does suggest that those who can walk the walk do so because the love of God has been planted in their hearts. Because God loved us first, we obey his commandments. Pray that you might obey the words of the Lord today and walk just as he walked as you put love in action.
