1 In my distress I cry to the Lord,
that he may answer me:
2 “Deliver me, O Lord,
from lying lips,
from a deceitful tongue.”
Prayer Focus: We begin this pilgrim journey with Psalm 120 and a cry for help. How often do you try to handle everything on your own and how often do you cry to the Lord, “I’m in trouble!” The lie of self-reliance and that good, competent people do not need help from others is one of the falsehoods our culture repeatedly tells us. As we prepare for Ash Wednesday and a time of repentance tomorrow, pray that you might cry out to the Lord in times of distress. It is not a lack of faith to ask for help.
“The first step toward God is a step away from the lies of the world. It is a renunciation of the lies we have been told about ourselves and our neighbors and the universe.” Peterson, 23.
