4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
I fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
my whole life long.
Prayer Focus: Walking through a narrow valley brings anxiety as one cannot see if something dangerous is hiding in the next turn of the path. Sitting down to eat with enemies brings anxiety as we never know what might be hidden in the dish in front of us. Yet, the good shepherd gives us peace to be present in the moment; to enjoy the beauty of the valley; to enjoy a meal even with enemies; to dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Pray that you might be present.
