Tuesday, July 2nd: Scripture – Lamentations 3:7-9

Tuesday, July 2nd: Scripture – Lamentations 3:7-9

7 He has walled me about so that I cannot escape;

    he has put heavy chains on me;

8 though I call and cry for help,

    he shuts out my prayer;

9 he has blocked my ways with hewn stones;

    he has made my paths crooked.

Prayer Focus: The author of Lamentations, whether through personal experience or adopting the persona of “one who has seen,” shares the experience of being trapped. The images are being walled in, bound by a heavy chain, a way blocked by hewn stones, and a path made crooked. Have you ever felt trapped or bound, especially by God? Sometimes we quip that if “God closes a door, he opens a window,” but I suspect there are moments we have all felt entirely closed in. In your prayers today, I encourage you to admit and offer up to God the places you feel trapped. Lament encourages honest lifting up to God of our pain, confusion, and loss. Be willing to enter into lament today.
