2 On the willows there
we hung up our harps.
3 For there our captors
asked us for songs,
and our tormentors asked for mirth, saying,
“Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
Prayer Focus: The psalmist recounts an act of civil disobedience against their captors. The Babylonians call for them to joyfully sing a song of Zion, but the psalmist throws their harps into the trees in protest. What holds you captive today? Is it social media, your job, your politics, or even your family? How does your captor ask for something joyful or meaningful from you, but is actually just mocking? Pray that you might speak the truth in love today – even if that means throwing your harp into a willow tree.
