Tuesday, January 25: Scripture – Luke 4:16b-19
16 He stood up to read,
17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written:
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Prayer Focus: These verses from Isaiah have sometimes been called Jesus’ vision and mission statement in the Gospel of Luke. The Spirit falls upon him in his baptism and then Jesus begins a ministry of bringing good news, release, healing, and freedom. He not only proclaims, but he is the year of the Lord’s favor as all might be restored in him. What are your vision and your mission for today? Do not look years ahead – focus on today. What can you do for the world God loves today? Pray that you might see and fulfill your mission from God today.
