Tuesday, August 30: Scripture – Luke 14:27
27 Whoever does not carry the cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.
Prayer Focus: This verse at first seems to be unrelated, but perhaps is an appropriate summary of what Jesus is trying to say about our relation to our family in the text we considered yesterday. Whoever does not carry the cross and follow him cannot be a disciple. If the moment comes, we must be willing to follow Jesus all the way to the cross. Our commitments to family may give us second thoughts about going all the way with Jesus. To give our life for another, that is love. To give our life for our families, that is love. To give our life for Jesus, that is discipleship. Pray that you might be willing to carry the cross and follow Jesus today.
