Scripture – Luke 4:16b-17a

He stood up to read, 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him.

Prayer Focus: As I understand it, the custom at the time in the synagogue allowed any male in attendance to offer to read and interpret a passage of scripture. Those of this synagogue knew Jesus, remember this was the town he grew up in and it was his custom to go to the synagogue on the Sabbath. So, when Jesus stood up to read, they gave him the scroll of the prophet Isaiah. I wonder if he had read and taught there before? What did they expect him to say when they gave him Isaiah? What are you hoping Jesus will say to you today?
