Thursday, September 29: Scripture – 2 Timothy 1:5-7
5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, lives in you.
6 For this reason I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands;
7 for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.
Prayer Focus: I am struck by the way that Paul describes faith as something that lives and that can be handed down from one generation to the next. So often we believe faith is agreement with a set of doctrines or truths about God. But here, faith is a living trust. It can be witnessed in others and shared with children and grandchildren. It is a faith that now lives in you. Give thanks in your prayers today for the one who passed down that faith to you. Ask God to give you an avenue to pass your faith down to the next generation.
