Scripture – I Corinthians 12: 14-18 (CEV)
14 Our bodies don’t have just one part. They have many parts.
15 Suppose a foot says, “I’m not a hand, and so I’m not part of the body.” Wouldn’t the foot still belong to the body?
16 Or suppose an ear says, “I’m not an eye, and so I’m not part of the body.” Wouldn’t the ear still belong to the body?
17 If our bodies were only an eye, we couldn’t hear a thing. And if they were only an ear, we couldn’t smell a thing.
18 But God has put all parts of our body together in the way that he decided is best.
Prayer Focus: As we studied this passage, the children laughed imagining someone’s body as one big eye. But they also understand metaphors and have talked about these verses wondering what it would be like if there was only one type of person at church or on their soccer team or in a band. The body is made up of different parts, and each part has a unique and special part to play. Just as we each have a unique and special part to play in the community of faith we call Unity Presbyterian Church. No one is more important than anyone else. God called us all together in this time and place in the way God decided was best. Pray that you will welcome the gifts of others and celebrate their uniqueness this week.
