Thursday, September 15: Scripture – Luke 16:8-9
8 And his master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly, for the children of this age are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than are the children of light.
9 And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of dishonest wealth so that when it is gone they may welcome you into the eternal homes.
Prayer Focus: In his commentary on these verses in the Gospel of Luke, John T. Carroll, Professor of New Testament at Union Presbyterian Seminary says that “Wealth is potentially corrupting and corrosive, yet it can be a means to the accomplishment of good. Although money and material possessions do not endure, appropriate use of such resources can win one lasting friends.” The resources and materials we have at our fingertips here in our communities can be put to good use for the work of God’s kingdom. Pray this week that we as individuals, as well as a community of faith, might use what we have available to us for the good work of God’s love in the world.
