11 Therefore because you trample on the poor
and take from them levies of grain,
you have built houses of hewn stone,
but you shall not live in them;
you have planted pleasant vineyards,
but you shall not drink their wine.
Prayer Focus: Amos indicates that there will be consequences for those who do not provide for and care for the poor. This is not simply those who are “poor in spirit.” Amos declares that those who build stone houses and plant vineyards while trampling on the poor and taking their grain will not benefit from their theft. They will not live in the fine houses they craft. They will not drink wine from their vineyards. Pray today that you might see and confess the ways that your life benefits from unjust systems.
