7 Do not be astonished that I said to you, ‘You must be born from above.’ 8 The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” 9 Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?”
Prayer Focus: Jesus continues to speak about being born from above and being born of the Spirit. The wind blows where it chooses but you do not understand it. Nicodemus is thoroughly confused because he says, “How can these things be?” Yes, how can God be at work in the work for redemption and reconciliation? It certainly doesn’t appear that all things are being reborn. We’re so eager to return to normal that we’re already falling into old patterns. The question, “How can these things be?” can be read as a hopeful one, one filled with anticipation. Ask the Lord, “How can these things you promise be?” and may they be fulfilled today.
