Scripture – Matthew 22:5-7

5 But they made light of it and went away, one to his farm, another to his business, 6 while the rest seized his slaves, mistreated them, and killed them. 7 The king was enraged. He sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

Prayer Focus: Once again, those invited refuse to come. When a similar parable is shared in the Gospel of Luke the guests provide excuses, but here they just make fun of the invitation and go their separate ways. And then, they kill the messengers – WHAT? And the king responds by sending troops to destroy the murderers and burning their city – WHAT? I thought this was a parable about a big dinner. But it seems that the stakes are far higher than that. Who are those initially invited to the wedding banquet for the king’s son? What does their refusal to attend really mean? Is this response really necessary? Pray over these puzzling questions today.
