5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
let my right hand wither!
6 Let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth,
if I do not remember you,
if I do not set Jerusalem
above my highest joy.
Prayer Focus: To remember in the Hebrew tradition is to “make present” again. At the beginning of the psalm, the psalmist weeps when they remember the destruction of Jerusalem. Now, remembering Jerusalem leads to determination. The psalmist will not forget Jerusalem for as long as there is memory, there is hope. Pray that the presence of the Lord brings you memory and hope today.
