Now when all the people were baptized and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened,
Prayer Focus: Notice there is no description of Jesus’ baptism here the way there is in the gospels of Matthew or Mark. Here we just read that Jesus was baptized like everyone else. There is no special water or liturgy that was set aside just for the Messiah. Jesus got in line with everyone else to be baptized that day, in the same river water everyone else was submerged in. In his baptism, Christ joins us in our humanity. He meets us where we are and shows us that he is here with us in the full human experience. Pray this week as you experience joys and difficulties, that you might remember you are never alone in those moments, Christ is right there with you.
