Thursday, January 27: Scripture – Luke 4:22-23
22 All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They said, “Is not this Joseph’s son?”
23 He said to them, “Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, ‘Doctor, cure yourself!’ And you will say, ‘Do here also in your hometown the things that we have heard you did at Capernaum.’”
Prayer Focus: I imagine that Jesus preached at least a bit longer than just telling the crowd that the scripture had been fulfilled in their hearing. Whatever else he said, the crowd approved of this young man they had known since he was a child. “Is this not Joseph’s son? Look at how well he has turned out!” Yes, everything looks wonderful until Jesus himself picks a fight. Does he sense that the people are looking for more from their hometown hero or does he just have more to say? Pray that you might hear all that Jesus intends for you to hear today and not just settle in the words that please you.
