8 He said to them, “Now draw some out, and take it to the person in charge of the banquet.” So they took it.
Prayer Focus: Once again, Jesus’s demands of the servants are simple and unassuming. He instructs them to draw the wine (that was once water) and take it to the person in charge. If they said anything to Jesus in response, John doesn’t share it with us. Instead, John simply tells us that they did exactly as they were told. Their silence begs questions. Did the servants know that the water has been transformed into wine? Did they know that Jesus had performed a miracle? These details are left out and we are only told that the servants follow Jesus’s instructions. What does it feel like to willingly say “yes” to Christ, even when we have questions? What does it feel like to follow the call to discipleship when we cannot yet imagine the outcome? Today, let us pray that we, like the servants, may boldly follow Christ as faithful, uninhibited disciples.
