14 “Now, therefore, revere the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness; put away the gods that your ancestors served beyond the River and in Egypt and serve the Lord. 15 Now if you are unwilling to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served in the region beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living, but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Prayer Focus: The verses today are a shift from what God has done to how the Israelites respond. The call is to “revere the Lord” and to “put away the gods of their ancestors.” Joshua presents this as a clear choice – either A or B. Choose this day whom you will serve. It is a good reminder that we are always serving something or someone. Do we give our lives to something that brings life and hope and flourishing; or are we giving our lives to burden and death? Pray that you might choose today whom you will serve.
