Thursday, August 11: Scripture – Hebrews 11:32-34
32 And what more should I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets,
33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions,
34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.
Prayer Focus: These few verses are a list of the who’s who of the Old Testament and all of their miraculous deeds. Its inspiring, and if we’re honest, a bit intimidating. Very few of us, if any, will ever need to conquer kingdoms, face a den of lions, or escape the edge of a sword. But all of us will have to face difficult and sometimes dangerous situations where we have a choice being doing what is easy or doing what is faithful. We are not meant to complete the same tasks these saints did, we are meant to follow their decision-making process. As we think about their stories this week, pray that your choices might reflect your love for God and for your neighbor.
