9 and having been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him,

10 having been designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

Prayer Focus: Who is Melchizedek? And what does it mean that Jesus has been designated by God according to the order of Melchizedek. The preacher does not provide any additional information here, but in chapter 7, the preacher references a meeting between Abraham and Melchizedek in this way: “His name, in the first place, means “king of righteousness”; next he is also king of Salem, that is, “king of peace.” Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.” His point is that long before priests were established for the people of Israel in Leviticus, God foreshadowed the role and work of Christ in this King Melchizedek. May you be a similar signpost that points to Christ today. May others see you and know that Jesus is on the way. Pray that it might be so today.
