Sunday, May 21: Scripture – Acts 1:12-14

12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away.

13 When they had entered the city, they went to the room upstairs where they were staying: Peter, and John, and James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.

14 All these were constantly devoting themselves to prayer, together with certain women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, as well as his brothers.

Prayer Focus: As Jesus instructed them, the apostles return to Jerusalem and they wait. We get a list of the eleven who remain, plus certain women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, as well as Jesus’ brothers. Do not allow yourself to fall into the trap of thinking that the apostles were only a bunch of men. The women are there too, equally constantly devoting themselves to prayer. It takes a true community, with all of its diversity, to be the church. Give thanks that diversity includes our high school and college graduates, whom we will recognize today. Pray for them and wait with them because God has big things in store.
