Sunday, March 27: Scripture – 1 John 4:9-12

9 God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him.

10 In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

11 Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another.

12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us.

Prayer Focus: God’s love was revealed in the sending of his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. The intention for sending the Son, for God’s self-revelation of love, was not that the world might be condemned. It was not that God might execute judgment upon us. It was not so that we might get our act together. No, God sent his only Son into the world because he loved us so much that the Son would be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. God’s love is revealed so that we might be reconciled and our sins might be forgiven. That is who our God is. On this Commitment Sunday, pray that you might receive reconciliation and forgiveness today. Pray that you might show this love to one another.
