35 While Jesus was teaching in the temple, he said, “How can the scribes say that the Messiah is the son of David? 36 David himself, by the Holy Spirit, declared,
‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand,
until I put your enemies under your feet.” ’
37 “David himself calls him Lord, so how can he be his son?” And the large crowd was listening to him with delight.
Prayer Focus: Jesus continues teaching in the temple, raising some of the puzzling verses in scripture about the Messiah being the son of David. If David calls him Lord, how can the Messiah be his son? John the Baptist reminded us that the one who comes after will be greater. Is that the case here for David as well. As the crowd listens, they are delighted. Pray that you might be delighted by the Word of God today. Pray that your delight might spill over so that others see how wrestling with the Word brings new life to you and to others. Reading and studying the word is supposed to be fun!
