Scripture – 1 Corinthians 12: 24b-26 (CEV)
God put our bodies together in such a way that even the parts that seem the least important are valuable. 25 God did this to make all parts of the body work together smoothly, with each part caring about the others. 26 If one part of our body hurts, we hurt all over. If one part of our body is honored, the whole body will be happy.
Prayer Focus: Who do we tend to think are the least important people in a church? Is it the youngest children, older people who can no longer serve the way they used to, those with disabilities who need adaptations to participate? First Corinthians reminds us that God created our bodies in such a way that every part, whether it seems important or not, plays a vital role in the way our bodies function. Have you ever tried to walk when your baby toe hurts? Tailbones may not seem necessary anymore, but did you know they help with balance, support your organs, and connect to major muscles to help you sit comfortably? Even those we value least in a church have been given particular gifts to share that are vital to a healthy congregation. Maybe we just need to slow down enough to observe the important part they play. Pray that you will have an opportunity to get to know someone in the congregation that you don’t know this week. As you get to know them, notice what unique gifts they bring to our congregation and what would be missing if they weren’t a part of it.
