8 Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered;
Prayer Focus: One of the great debates in the early church was about whether or not Jesus suffered. Some argued that he only appeared to suffer or only a part of him suffered. This was based on the assumption that a perfect and immovable God could not suffer. Others, and this is the position of faith the church adopted, argued that Jesus absolutely suffered. In his full humanity and his obedience even until death on a cross, Jesus suffered for you and for me. Our God is not removed from our pain. Our God fully enters our pain and our suffering. Know that you do not suffer alone today. Know that Jesus suffers with and for you. And as the Son, he is the one who can lead you home.
