Scripture – Numbers 11:4-6

4 The camp followers with them had a strong craving, and the Israelites also wept again and said, “If only we had meat to eat! 5 We remember the fish we used to eat in Egypt for nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic, 6 but now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all but this manna to look at.”

Prayer Focus: The second text we will read on Sunday comes from the Book of Numbers, chapter 11. The people of Israel are in the wilderness during their 40-year Exodus journey from Egypt to the Promised Land. And at this moment, they remember all the foods they had to eat when they were back in Egypt. Nostalgia is a powerful emotion and gives us the impression that things were always rosy in the past. Perhaps they did have fish, vegetables, and garlic in Egypt, but they were also slaves! Pray that as you remember the past, that you will have an accurate perception of “how things used to be.”
