18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book;
19 if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away that person’s share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
Prayer Focus: These verses should give all preachers a bit of pause in preaching and interpreting Revelation! There are consequences for anyone who adds or takes away from the words of the prophecy of this book. In the original context, as the letter is shared aloud in worship in the seven churches, I can imagine that those who heard might find their minds off and running with additions or subtractions to what they just heard. Pray that you might keep the main thing, the main thing – Jesus Christ is the Revelation! Keep your eyes focused on Christ and all will be well.
