14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. 15 I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but I ask you to protect them from the evil one. 16 They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.
Prayer Focus: We might read these words as indicating that our home is somewhere else, i.e. that we do not belong to the world. Again, the world is those working against God’s plan. The “world” is not the earth and God’s good creation. We do not belong to those in active rebellion against God in the same way that Jesus did not belong to that “world.” But we do not need to be transported to somewhere else, like heaven, to know God’s grace, love, protection, and life. God brings that to us here and now. Pray that you might not seek to escape the world, but to enter even more fully into it. For God is present with you here and now.
