Saturday, July 2: Scripture – Matthew 3:10
10 Even now the ax is lying at the root of the trees; therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
Prayer Focus: Earlier in the week, we saw that the fire in the burning bush drew Moses’ attention. Here we see that the fire is an instrument of destruction. John the Baptist threatens those who do not bear the fruit of repentance with the metaphor of being cut down and thrown into the fire. What in your life do you want to cut out and destroy with this kind of fire? Pray that you might turn away from all that is hindering your relationship with God. Pray that you might identify the things in this world which are drawing you away from God. May they be metaphorically destroyed by fire.
