17 Between the vestibule and the altar let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep. Let them say, “Spare your people, O Lord, and do not make your heritage a mockery, a byword among the nations. Why should it be said among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’”
Prayer Focus: The role of priests in a sacrificial system is to be intermediaries between the people and God. They intercede on behalf of the people. Here, the prophet Joel calls upon them to weep and plead that the Lord will spare the people. We know from the Psalms that the Lord is inclined to mercy. So, in your prayers today ask for the Lord’s grace. And not just for yourself – plead that the Lord’s grace and mercy will be showered upon someone else in need. Be a priest today.
