Saturday, February 19: Scripture – Luke 6:37-38
37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven;
38 give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.”
Prayer Focus: Often “Do not judge” is pulled out of context and given the interpretation that judging is categorically wrong. And yet, we know that is not true, for every minute we make decisions about the worth of things, whether something is correct or incorrect, whether to eat at this restaurant or that restaurant, to buy this item or another. If we read the whole verse, we find that our discernment should be grounded in forgiveness and charity. What we hope to receive is an overflowing blessing. Should we expect to receive that by cutting off a relationship with another through judging or condemning? Or will God’s good gifts flow through mercy, forgiveness, and grace. Pray for the ability to judge what is the best path toward God’s amazing gifts today.
