“And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.”
2 Samuel 7:16
This passage is not just about David’s son carrying on his kingdom, but it is also telling us there is a promise that the Messiah is coming, and His Kingdom will endure forever.
Forever… what a strong word. In my own life it seems nothing lasts forever, my children are growing up, there are empty places at the Christmas table once filled by loved ones. This passage gives me great hope that there is something that is forever. With the coming of the Messiah, the Kingdom will last forever. What a promise! What a gift! This is truly the greatest Christmas gift of all… better than a new pair of slippers, restaurant gift cards, or fruit baskets.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to remember to thank you for the greatest Christmas gift. The only one that remains forever- your Kingdom and your Son. Guide us to slow down and to find ways to serve you. Help us shine your light to those who need it most. Lead us to comfort those who need a reminder of the gift of your Kingdom. Amen
