Saturday, August 20: Scripture – Mark 6: 38-41
39 Then he ordered them to get all the people to sit down in groups on the green grass.
40 So they sat down in groups of hundreds and of fifties.
41 Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and blessed and broke the loaves and gave them to his disciples to set before the people, and he divided the two fish among them all.
Prayer Focus: Jesus has the disciples have the people sit down in groups on the “green grass.” We don’t often find that level of description in the Gospel of Mark, so it must be intentional. Perhaps we are to be reminded of Psalm 23 where the shepherd makes us lie down in green pastures and prepares a table for us. Remember the opening of this story when Jesus saw the people were like sheep without a shepherd. The five loaves and two fish, in the hands of the Lord, are enough to feed everyone. Pray that you might know the gifts of the good shepherd today who makes a way when there appears to be no way.
