Saturday, April 9: Scripture – Luke 19:39-40
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, order your disciples to stop.”
40 He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.”
Prayer Focus: Some Pharisees ‘in the crowd.” Have they traveled with Jesus as well from Galilee? Are they worried about what the reaction might be in Jerusalem to this band of travelers, their leader riding on a colt, and the song of praise? In other gospels it appears as if the criticism comes from within Jerusalem, but here it seems that the Pharisees are in the crowd with the disciples. Could they be worried for Jesus as he comes to Jerusalem? Jesus responds to their command to order his disciples to stop by saying that if these were silent, the stones would shout out. Nothing can quiet this song, so you might as well sing along. Pray that you might lift up your voice today. Don’t let the stones do your singing for you.
