Saturday, April 23: Scripture – Acts 5:29-31
29 But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than any human authority.
30 The God of our ancestors raised up Jesus, whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree.
31 God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior that he might give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.
Prayer Focus: Peter has become the chief spokesman for the apostles, but at least in these short verses it appears that he is not the only one who speaks. We must obey God rather than any human authority. God raised up Jesus. That good news gives us courage to place our allegiance in things outside of human authority. If we are no longer fearful of the human authority’s ultimate weapon for control – death – then anything becomes possible. We might even begin to really live! Pray that you might live today through your obedience to God rather than any human authority.
