Monday, September 5: Scripture – Psalm 51:1-2
1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy, blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
Prayer Focus: The psalmist begins with a petition for mercy and a reminder of God’s character. This is important as we consider confession of our sins. We do not blindly appeal to the universe for mercy in the hopes that an angry God will forgive us. We offer our prayers for mercy to our God of steadfast love. We offer our prayers for mercy to the one who already loves us with abundant mercy. So do not be afraid to pray today to ask for mercy. Pray that you might be washed and cleansed by the God of steadfast love.
