Monday, September 26: Scripture – Psalm 60:1-5
1 O God, you have rejected us, broken our defenses; you have been angry; now restore us!
2 You have caused the land to quake; you have torn it open; repair the cracks in it, for it is tottering.
3 You have made your people suffer hard things; you have given us wine to drink that made us reel.
4 You have set up a banner for those who fear you, to rally to it out of bowshot.
5 Give victory with your right hand and answer us, so that those whom you love may be rescued.
Prayer Focus: The psalmist begins this psalm with three phrases about God’s displeasure with the people. God has rejected us, broken our defenses, and been angry. Still the psalmist finishes the sentence, “Now restore us!” There is no reason to believe God’s anger or rejection is undeserved, but the psalmist prays that the time for anger and rejection has passed. Now is the time for restoration. Have you been holding onto anger for too long? Is there a broken relationship which you need to restore? What are you waiting for? Pray that you might move beyond anger and rejection toward reconciliation and restoration today. That is what God has done for you.
