Monday, October 13th: Scripture – Luke 6:1-5

1 Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose heart. 2 He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor had respect for people. 3 In that city there was a widow who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Grant me justice against my accuser.’ 4 For a while he refused, but later he said to himself, ‘Though I have no fear of God and no respect for anyone, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice, so that she may not wear me out by continually coming.’ ”

Prayer Focus: It is not often that we get an editorial explanation for Jesus’ parables, but Luke tells us that Jesus told this parable about the need to pray always and not lose heart. Perhaps you need to hear a parable about those needs today. Maybe you’re so busy that you’ve neglected your practices of prayer. Maybe you are dismayed over one thing or so many things that you’re losing heart. Hear this parable about persistence. Unlike this judge, God wants to grant your petitions. Pray that you might wear out your knees and God’s ears with your prayers today.
