16 While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply distressed to see that the city was full of idols.
Prayer Focus: The Apostle Paul is in Athens and as he looks around he sees that the city was full of idols. This is deeply distressing to Paul. I suspect that we barely notice the idols that surround us. Perhaps you have heard John Calvin’s saying: “the human mind is an idol factory,” and we create idols without even thinking about it. Anything that we place above God in terms of our devotion, our time, our resources, our attention, our life is an idol. Pray that you might have eyes to see the idols in your life. Pray that as you recognize them, you might begin to turn away from them.
