Monday, May 22: Scripture – Numbers 11:16-17
16 So the Lord said to Moses, “Gather for me seventy of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; bring them to the tent of meeting and have them take their place there with you.
17 I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the spirit that is on you and put it on them, and they shall bear the burden of the people along with you so that you will not bear it all by yourself.
Prayer Focus: This coming Sunday we will celebrate Pentecost. We will hear and experience the traditional Pentecost story from Acts in Sunday School and as we begin our worship services. However, the preaching text will be one of the other texts suggested by the lectionary – this text from Numbers 11. The Lord knows that Moses cannot bear the burden of leadership of God’s people alone, so God tells Moses to gather seventy of the elders. God will take some of the spirit that is on Moses and put it on them. With whom are you sharing your spirit? Who bears the burdens of life along with you so that you do not have to bear it all by yourself? Pray that you might know the strength of the spirit and those who come alongside you to share it today.
