Monday, March 1: Scripture – Luke 23:32-33

32 Two others also, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him. 33 When they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified Jesus there with the criminals, one on his right and one on his left.

Prayer Focus: We do not usually think about joy in relation to the cross. And yet, the liturgy in the Orthodox Church reminds us that “through the cross joy came to the whole world.” This week we will think and pray about joy in the midst of the most challenging circumstances in our lives. When they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified Jesus there with the criminals. Jesus is not crucified alone. Especially as Luke tells us this story, the two other criminals are present in a vital way. Think about moments of suffering that you have known. Remember others who were present there with you. Give thanks to God in your prayers today that you are not alone. In the presence of others and the presence of Christ, we might glimpse joy.
