Monday, June 5
Throughout the months of June and July, our daily devotions will be invitations to pray, perhaps in familiar ways and sometimes in new ways. Last week we invited you to consider the place or the location in which you pray. This week we invite you to listen as well as speak in your prayers, using scripture as a guide.
Listening prayer is simple, but it does take some practice. In the midst of a world demanding our attention with pings, calls, shoulder taps, children’s calls, and intentional distractions, finding time to be quiet and listen is a challenge. As a first step, we invite you to set a timer for 30 seconds, read the following scripture verse, and then listen for what God is saying to you in that verse until the timer rings. After a few days at 30 seconds, try setting the timer for 45 seconds and gradually increase your time as you find yourself longing to continue.
Are you ready? Set your timer and begin:
Psalm 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations; I am exalted in the earth.”
