1 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.

Prayer Focus: The next parable about the kingdom of heaven that Jesus tells is recorded in chapter 20. A landowner went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. Vineyards are a common image throughout scripture for God’s reign as they produce grapes that symbolize the goodness of the Lord. And yet, maintaining a vineyard requires cultivation and hard work. This landowner does not do all the labor himself, and so employs day laborers to work for him. Are you ready to work in the vineyard today? Pray that you might say yes to whatever job is offered to you.
