The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah:
See, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is anything too hard for me?
Therefore, thus says the Lord: I am going to give this city into the hands of the Chaldeans and into the hand of King Nebuchadrezzar of Babylon, and he shall take it.
The Chaldeans who are fighting against this city shall come, set it on fire, and burn it, with the houses on whose roofs offerings have been made to Baal and libations have been poured out to other gods, to provoke me to anger.
Prayer Focus: In answer to the question of why the people of Israel are in exile, Jeremiah gives one possible answer. The Lord decided to send them into exile because of their sin. Jeremiah explores this in the verses we will read this week. He begins with a declaration from the Lord that it is not an accident that Jerusalem was overthrown. God himself gave the city to the Babylonians. The Lord is the God of all flesh. God is using the Babylonians. Could God even be using those we deem as “enemies” to accomplish God’s purposes? Pray that you might see God’s hands at work in the most unexpected people today.
