1 By the rivers of Babylon—
there we sat down, and there we wept
when we remembered Zion.
Prayer Focus: Our hymn for this week is “There’s a Sweet, Sweet Spirit” and our daily devotions follow verses from Psalm 137 and Acts 10. We begin with the Psalm, which recalls the people of Israel’s experience in exile. The psalmist weeps beside the rivers of Babylon. This is a foreign river, not the Jordan river. They weep for they remember the destruction of Zion, another name for Jerusalem, the home of God. What causes you to weep this week? Where do you feel like you are far from home? Could the Lord possibly be with you even in your own “exile”? Pray with your tears today and join your tears with all who weep.
