Prayer Focus: As we choose texts for worship from the Revised Common Lectionary in these weeks before the beginning of Lent, we join the Gospel according to Luke this week. Jesus’ ministry of teaching, preaching, and healing begins in Galilee; and in our text for today we find Jesus moving to a place where he can deliver a sermon. In Matthew’s Gospel, this sermon happens on a mountain and so is called the Sermon on the Mount. In this gospel, Jesus goes down and stands on a level place, so this very similar sermon is called the Sermon on the Plain. Whether we hear the teachings of Jesus in a familiar place or an unexpected one, pray that your heart and mind will be open to hearing the words Jesus wants to share with you today.
